The composition shows the view from the Sculpture Garden on the roof of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, looking south towards midtown, with Fifth Avenue and the Upper East Side to the left, and Central Park, in full summer verdancy, in the foreground.

Lloyd Goldsmith was born in New York City in 1945 and resides there still. His specialty has been intense, romantic drawings of the skylines and street vistas of New York; often very polished, often of impressive scale. Mr. Goldsmith has been the recipient of several awards for drawing, including a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship. More recently, he has turned to oils and monotypes to expand his repertoire. He is represented in several public collections including the Museum of Modern Art, New York and the New York Public Library.
